With
the ever-climbing cost of college, most people who want to continue
their education will need help paying tuition. Thousands of scholarships
are available, but few are well publicized. Here are a few of
the many lesser-known scholarships.
Princess
Grace Awards: ranging from $3,000 to $15,000 for students
who have had at least one year of professional training, undergraduate
study or graduate work in dance. The dean or artistic director
of their organization must nominate candidates. Contact Executive

Clauder
Competition Prize: biennial awards of $2,500 and $500 to student
playwrights residing or attending college in New England. Applicants
must submit a play of between one and three hours using no more

Frederick
A. Downes Scholarship: $2,500 stipend for legally blind college
students 22 years old or younger. Contact the American Foundation

Hallie
Q. Brown Scholarship Fund: up to $1,000 for African American
students who have completed at least one semester of postsecondary

Grossworth-Salny
Awards: $200 to $1,000 to enrolled college students who submit
a 550-word essay describing their goals. Contact American Mensa

Helena
Rubenstein Scholarship in Perpetuity for a Woman: $1,000 for
four years to a female New York high school student. Students
are nominated by principals or guidance counselors; award is based
