Children’s Art Exhibit Raises Vision Care Awareness

Four children received recognition as winning artists of this year’s vision awareness poster contest during a ceremony at the Richard York Gallery in Manhattan. The contest was designed to educate the public about the importance of vision and vision care. The winning posters are on 1,000 city buses, visible to 19 million riders.

Winners came from all five boroughs, and included mainstream children, special needs students, and visually impaired young people. Many of the artists, their families, friends and teachers attended the ceremony.

The bus campaign’s bilingual message highlights undiagnosed children’s vision problems and the link between good vision, learning, literacy and life success. The campaign also includes distribution of free children’s eye charts and coupons for free eye exams and glasses for needy children. The New York City Children Vision Coalition who sponsored the contest, aims to identify and correct vision problems early, resulting in improved learning and happier kids.
