Museum
on the Water is the Location for Summer Fun

Looking
for a place where you and your students can spread your wings
and discover first hand what it’s like to travel on the sea, fly
in the air, and float in space? Then join us on the Intrepid
Sea•Air•Space Museum this summer for an exciting, enriching experience.
The Intrepid is more than a museum. Experience what it’s
like to fly a supersonic jet on the Virtual Flight Zone’s flight
simulators. Test your physical abilities just like the men and
women of the U.S. Armed Forces in the new “Special Forces Challenge”—our
new five-person rock-climbing wall. Discover what it’s like to
live and work on board an authentic aircraft carrier, naval destroyer,
and guided-missile sub. Inspect some of the world’s fastest planes,
including an F6F Hellcat fighter to an A-12 Blackbird spy plane
on the Intrepid’s flight deck.
Your Intrepid experience becomes even more enriching when
combined with one of the Intrepid Education Department’s
exploration workshops and tours. Led by certified teachers, kindergartners
through third graders can learn how boats float and planes fly,
building their own models and testing their creations. They can
also explore life onboard a “city at sea.” Fourth through eighth
graders can discover the fascinating world of space exploration
as well as the real lives of the real heroes who served our country
in the Armed Forces and who made sacrifices at home during World
War II. High schoolers can gain a profound understanding of Korean
War, Vietnam War, and Cold War history through discussions and
explorations on board the Intrepid—a National Historic
Landmark that served during all three conflicts. Classes will
enjoy Scavenger Hunts, searching for artifacts and items around
the Intrepid so that they can learn on their own while
on board.
Summer isn’t the only time to plan a visit. The Intrepid
Sea•Air•Space Museum is currently undergoing a multi-million dollar
upgrade and expansion of its exhibits and activities over the
next three years. The newly-opened pedestrian walkway over the
West Side Highway makes it even easier to visit us at Pier 86
(46th Street and Hudson River Park).
Come visit one of New York’s most exciting and enriching experiences.
You can reserve a tour or workshop by contacting the Intrepid’s
Group Services Office at (212) 957-3701 or (212) 957-3703, Monday
through Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. For more information
about the Intrepid Sea•Air•Space Museum, visit www.intrepidmuseum.org.
Looking forward to seeing you onboard the Intrepid!#
