Craftsman/NSTA Young Inventors Awards Program
Challenges students to use creativity and imagination along with science, technology and mechanical ability to invent or modify a tool.
Entries must be received by March 4, 2003.
Two national winners will each receive a $10,000 savings bond. Other prizes range from $250-$500 in savings bonds.

Christopher Columbus Awards
Challenge middle school students to explore opportunities for positive change in their communities.
Entries must be received by January 31, 2003.
Prizes include a trip to Disney World, and savings bonds of $25,000–$36,000.

20th Annual Teen Shakespeare Competition
The English-Speaking Union of the United States organizes the contest, which will send 76 national winners to compete at Lincoln Center in April, 2003. One winner will be chosen to travel to England for a Shakespearean study tour.

International Open Poetry Contest
The International Library of Poetry will be awarding $58,000 in prizes this year in the poetry contest. Poets, particularly beginners, are welcome to try to win their share of over 250 prizes. The deadline for the contest is December 31, 2002. The contest is open to everyone and entry is free.
To enter, send one original poem, any subject and style, to: The International Library of Poetry, Suite 19915, 1 Poetry Plaza, Owing Mills, MD 21117. The poem should be 20 lines or less, and the poet’s name and address should appear at the top of the page. Entries are also being accepted online at www.poetry.com.#
