Marymount Opens First Dorm

Over 1,000 friends, faculty, staff and neighbors joined together recently for the ribbon cutting ceremony of Manhattan Marymount College’s (MMC) first residence facility, located at 231 East 55th Street. Governor Pataki and Mayor Giuliani were both present at the celebration. Senators Schumer and Clinton as well as Manhattan Borough President Virginia Fields all sent their congratulations. Newly appointed College President, Judson Shaver, thanked the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York for its willingness to collaborate, “for the first time in history, with the private sector on a residence project for an independent college.” Thanks were also extended to real estate developer Arun Bhatia and architect Costas Kondylis. Gail Gordon, Esq., Chair of the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York, spoke of the milestone MMC had reached in opening its first dormitory.
