During
this time of great sorrow and upheaval in New York City caused
by the destruction of the World Trade Center, we at Logos mourn
with the rest of the city, the United States and the world the
tragic loss of life that has occurred. May those who have lost
loved ones, family members and friends be comforted in their grief.
May we all be allowed to heal, and may the world be at peace.
If we at Logos can be of any help with recommendations for reading
materials in the areas of grief, counseling, healing or any other
topic, let us know.
In the spirit of getting back to normal that Mayor Giuliani has
suggested to all New Yorkers, we at Logos would like to invite
New Yorkers to step out and enjoy life in the city again. At Logos,
in particular, through October 30th at 7 P.M. is the Siren Project
featuring upcoming women writers and performers presenting readings
of plays and screenplays. At all Siren Project evenings enjoy
20% off any book or music cd or cassette sale. Free admission
to the readings. Call Logos for further details. If you like to
read books and discuss them, come join the Kill Your TV Reading
Group now celebrating its third year and about to start its fourth
year. Kill Your TV Reading Group meets the first Wednesday of
every month at 7 P.M. The next two meetings and books are: Wednesday,
October 3, Lucky Jim by Kingsley Amis and Wednesday, November
7th, The Hours by Michael Cunningham. From its start in 1998,
KYTV has discussed a wide range of books from Barbara Tuchman’s
The Guns Of August to Harry Potter And The Sorcerer’s Stone and
Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets including Salman Rushdie’s
Satanic Verses, Jude The Obscure by Thomas Hardy, A Heartbreaking
Work Of Staggering Genius by Dave Eggers, The Golden Bowl by Henry
James, On The Road by Jack Kerouac, Dreaming In Cuban by Cristina
Garcia and A Thousand Acres by Jane Smiley among others.
For children there are puppet shows on Thursday October 11th and
Saturday October 27th at 3:30 P.M. And the ever popular children’s
story hour will now be on Mondays at 3:30 P.M. Come see us. Peace.
