SOS! Museum Hosts Coast Guard Weekend

The Intrepid Sea Air Space Museum, a 900 ft aircraft carrier serving as a floating exploration center, will host the US Coast Guard (USCG) appreciation weekend on August 4 and 5 by welcoming several Coast Guard cutters docked at Pier 86.

The USCG will perform various safety and rescue demonstrations and provide information on joining the nation’s oldest continuous seagoing service. Guests can tour the USCG Reliance and speak with the crew about their search and rescue, law enforcement and national defense missions. Also, they can watch the sea-air rescue demonstration of an HH-65 Dolphin Helicopter as it deploys a rescue swimmer to recover victims. Other activities include a USCG “Drug Dogs” demonstration of how to uncover hidden narcotics aboard ships.

Events scheduled for the weekend are free and open to the public. For more information, call 212-245-0072 or visit www.intrepidmuseum.org.
