New City Hall Academy
New York City Schools Chancellor Joel I. Klein announced the creation of a new after-school program at City Hall Academy that will enable high school students to fulfill the Participation in Government graduation requirement. The course will begin in February and will offer about 100 high school juniors and seniors the opportunity to examine the issues affecting city residents while fulfilling their graduation requirement in government.
Chancellor Klein said, "The program perfectly embodies what we intended for City Hall Academy. By using New York City as a lens, students will debate and engage about the real-life issues that affect them and their families. I encourage these students to get involved and take advantage of this terrific opportunity to earn credit while exploring new ways to think about their city and the world."
"By allowing students to study the relationship between government and their lives in such close proximity to our city's seat of government, this program will surely provide our children with a unique and rewarding educational experience," said Steven Strull, the Executive Director of City Hall Academy.#
