Christa McAuliffe Academy Brings Distance
Learning Home

As more and more parents are looking to alternatives for educating their children, distance learning is becoming an appealing alternative. Many parents are drawn to the concept of allowing their children to learn at home, yet participate in a larger global community.

Christa McAuliffe Academy (CMA) is the premier online school for grades K-12 worldwide. It is an internationally accredited private school, offering diagnostic assessment of each student's learning level, personalized, student-selected mentoring services, and a vigorous, flexible academic curriculum that is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year! CMA offers real-time collaboration using vClass, which enables mentors and students to discuss and interact in weekly sessions with high quality voice over IP, facilitating and enhancing the exchange of ideas and learning. This interactive, highly personal component of our learning program is one feature that truly sets CMA apart from other distance learning programs.

One paramount concern voiced by some parents of distance learning programs is their children's socialization. Will their children suddenly find themselves secluded from other children? Not so at Christa McAuliffe Academy.

Christa McAuliffe Academy, proudly named in honor of the legendary teacher to travel into outer space, requires the active participation and involvement of a parent or other responsible adult for optimum achievement. Our experience shows that students really needinteraction and encouragement from caring adults to be successful.

CMA holds an annual Prom and Graduation Ceremony every year, where students and their families come to Yakima from all over the world to celebrate the completion of high school and the commencement of adult life.

The Academy also offers the opportunity for students to travel to exotic places around the world, at least once per year and receive high school credit for their experience. This year a group of CMA students is currently in Italy, experiencing first hand the many interesting places they have been studying for the last several months!

The CMA Student Congress, our worldwide student government, does all the planning and preparation for Prom and other related activities associated with Graduation Week. Jennifer Scott, a 2002 CMA Graduate, said, "CMA has given me a sense of accomplishment in my school work, the drive and focus to reach my goals. Caring teachers, administration, and staff really made the difference for me."#
