It is the month of April, this year the month for Passover and Easter. For children Toy Box Productions puts out a series called ‘Bible Stories For Kids’. Two selections most appropriate for Passover are Holy Moses and Joshua: Victory Through God. In both books, like the other titles in the series are introduced God’s animals. In Holy Moses it is Cassandra the swan, Dara the duckling and Brazin the bear, who in conversation bring up the story of Moses and relate the whole tale. There are some songs to sing and rich full-page video cartoon style illustrations as well as an accompanying CD for the reader to follow the story and hear the songs sung. In Joshua: Victory Through God, Donkey Dan and Becky and Beulah Bear talk about Joshua and sing songs about Joshua and Jericho such as ‘The Spy Guys’, ‘The Banks Of The River Jordan’. Other books with CDs in the series are All About Adam’s Apple (the Story Of Creation), Noah’s Journey, A Whale Of A Tale (Jonah), A Coat, A Pharaoh And A Family Reunion (The Story Of Joseph), David Faces Goliath: Showdown In The Desert and Lions, Lions Everywhere: The Story Of Daniel.
For Easter in the same series He Is Risen: The True Meaning Of Easter presents the highlights of Jesus’ ministry, his entry into Jerusalem, the Last Supper, Jesus’ arrest, trial and crucifixion, the Empty Tomb and the Resurrection. This whole series of books introduces the young growing child to the important stories and leaders of the Bible in such a way as to evoke wonder in the child and interest in learning more about the Bible.
Nibble, Nibble by Margaret Wise Brown, author of Goodnight Moon, is a collection of five delightful poems published originally in 1959, and now beautifully illustrated by Wendell Minor with pages of luxurious illustrations of rabbits of many shades of brown, some running, some eating as well as other richly illustrated animals, flowers and vegetation. The verses are wonderful to read aloud especially when showing the little listeners the large size pictures that accompany these poems.
All these books are available at Logos, so are greeting cards for Passover and Easter and simple olive wood crosses with little containers at the bottom of the crosses that contain samples of earth from the Holy Land and other suitable gifts for Holy Week and Easter, plus many appropriate items for spring.
