Dr. Allen Frances is professor emeritus at Duke University, where he was previously chair of its department of psychiatry and behavioral sciences. He was also chair of the DSM-IV Task Force and principle investigator on the DSM-IV Field Trials. Dr. Frances spent the early part of his career in New York City, where he did his psychiatric and psychoanalytic training at Columbia University and later was professor of psychiatry at Cornell University and then at Columbia. He is the author of numerous books, including 'Saving Normal' and 'Essentials of Psychiatric Diagnosis' and has written a number of commentaries on DSM-V that can be found here.
